About to go on a road trip to Kamouraska with Adam! I always love packing lots of books to read (I just started this one by Mario Vargas Llosa) — does anyone have any recommendations for rad vacation-worthy tomes??

Have you read John Berger’s trilogy Into Their Labours? It is pretty special.
this is totally my style – i read ‘ways of seeing’ back in college but haven’t revisited his works since. stoked to check this out!
Anything by Jeffrey Eugenides, T.C. Boyle, or Geoff Dyer!
good call with the t.c. boyle, i always see his stuff in used bookstores but never know what to get or where to start. and yes, love lots for geoff dyer! some of it is so ponderous (that terrible book on d.h. lawrence, but i have to say, i kind of loved ‘jeff in venice / death in varanasi.’ if you like his stuff, you should check out julian barnes! both have that “breezy-yet-heavy” balance i look for when on vacation. : )
I just finished Jim Shepard’s book of short stories You Think That’s Bad, which I would highly recommend.
never heard of him! but i read this and thought YES (http://bombsite.com/issues/115/articles/4909) so i just ordered it from amazon!
